Five red flags that should concern you when buying a new home

None of us want to buy a lemon. That means you have to educate yourself if you are going to make a wise decision on buying a new home. There are many factors to watch for, but here are a few that should raise red flags.

When you find cracks on either side of a door, you can bet the foundation or slab is cracked. This is true, also, when windows or doors do not close properly.

The presence of mold is one of the largest concerns. It indicates a rotting building. So if there is a moldy smell, then you can bet there is hidden damage. A leaking roof is among one of the most important places that can be compromised, to create this mold.

When looking at the neighborhood, red flags should go up when you see many rentals or foreclosures. It means the properties will not be well cared for, as in the case of homes lived in by owners.

Additional red flags come from horizontal cracks that reveal a problem with the foundation. Gutters that have pulled away from the house tell that the wood is rotting. It also allows water to pour down and rot other parts of the house.

There really are so many factors that should make you worry about buying a home, you need to locate and hire a trustworthy professional home inspector. Make sure you use these factors to negotiate a fair price on the house, if you still plan on going ahead with the purchase. Enter the deal with your eyes wide open.
